Day Centres for older people in Kirkcaldy, Burntisland and Kinghorn
Day Centres Service Ltd is a voluntary organisation based in Kirkcaldy in Fife. We are a registered Charity, Scottish Charity Number SC 022522. We provide Day Centres for older people in the Kirkcaldy, Kinghorn and Burntisland areas.
Day Centres Service (K&B) was set up in 1994 to take over the running of Day Centres for frail, older people in the Kirkcaldy and Burntisland areas which were in the past run by Social Work. In April 2002, the organisation became Day Centres Service Ltd. The main funding for the Organisation comes from Fife Council Social Work Department. In addition, applications are made to other sources on a continuing basis to obtain further funding. Day Centres Service has a full time Manager plus a Board of Directors who are responsible for the running of the organisation.
The aim of the Day Centres is to provide an interesting and stimulating setting within which the Service Users can meet, make friends, become involved in activities and interests of their choice and be supported by the level of personal help and supervision which they may require. The Centres which are in operation at the moment are each run by an activities co-coordinator, escort/day centre workers and a group of volunteers, and are supervised by the Manager.
At present, Day Centres Service has capacity for up to 45 older people in our Active Aging group (The Rowans) who, because of their frailty, have become socially isolated. We also have the Haven Group, which specialises in catering for older people with middle to late stage of Dementia. This group has 50 places per week. We arrange for specialised transport to collect day centre members from their homes and take them to the relevant day centre. Various activities, crafts and entertainment are organised during the day.
The Day Centres each week
The Rowans Day Centres are run Monday to Wednesday. Our Dementia Day Centres (The Haven) run 5 days, Monday to Friday. All our Day Centres are run at St Bryce Kirk, Kirkcaldy.
